Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy together again in ‘Before the End’
The beloved "Before" trilogy starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy showed us the love story of Jesse and Celine in three different periods of their lives throughout 18 years. And now, their story continues? Well, almost.

Last Sunday, May 24, in a video by Rob Stone on Vimeo, we saw Ethan and Julie together again. But this time, in an experimental film.

Sadly, it’s not a fourth installment to the series — it’s a video that used two different interview footage of Ethan and Julie side by side to make it seem like they’re together in one video call, reminiscing their trip to a record booth which we saw in the first film. This video was titled “Before the End”.

The caption says that it is a response to the demand for a fourth installment, but set in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It read, “Primarily, the work is an experiment with updating the Kuleshov effect for social media, that is, showing how the juxtaposition of unrelated images will be read by a cinema audience as narrative, even though the projection of emotional connections between the images is, as here, entirely the construct of the audience. For study purposes.”

The trilogy began with "Before Sunrise" (1995) when Jesse and Celine first met, and then in "Before Sunset" (2004) where the two rekindled their romance, and then "Before Midnight" (2013), which explored deep-seated problems that come with marital relationships.
